Various methods are proposed for the practical use of ITS. We achieve the detection of urgent vehicles such as ambulances and fire fighting cars by measurement using spread spectrum methods. The authors propose a method whereby another vehicle and the signal can be used to detect the position of urgent vehicles. This method transmits the different code spread spectrum signals from the four corners of an urgent vehicle. As a result, because the direction where an urgent vehicle is approaching from is understood, evasive driving becomes easy for securing the road traffic, and the control of the signal also becomes easy. The results of an experimental system provided an excellent detection result.
