The purpose of this Generic CAN Interface is to provide a correct and sufficient data exchange between Engine Management System (EMS) and Transmission Control Unit (TCU) calculators, via the CAN network, in order to provide efficient global vehicle PowerTrain (PT) management during automated Gear Shift phases (by ENgine speed and Torque control in particular), for any vehicle configuration, such as: Internal Combustion Engine indirect Multi-Point Injection (MPI) or Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), or Diesel Injection (DI), with or without Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG) assistance, with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) system or a Planetary Gear Box. A possible Integrated PowerTrain Management (IPM) 'supervisor' can be included for global coordination. The definition has been progressively extrapolated as a functional link between EMS and the AMT, for generic compatibility. The current interface definition must become representative of a global generic interface, open to function flexibility for any application, and enlarged to any additional sub-systems as Inegrated Starter-Generator (ISG), Anti-Blocking Systems (ABS), Navigation (NAV), etc. Real-time Simulations were performed on Rapid Prototyping Table tests bench, and show a large potntial for an efficient gear-shift management, with few data exchange (max 2x32 bytes). An official standardization proposal is ongoing to the French Bureau de Normalisastion Automobile and the international ISO organization.
