With the XA-C3, Phillips Semiconductors provides a new generation of CAN microcontrollers. This 16-bit, single-chip microcontroller includes a powerful CAN2.0B Controller combining all benefits of today's FullCAN and PeliCAN controllers. The most innovative feature of this CAN microcontroller is a unique Transport Layer Co-processor servicing long CAN messages used in Higher Layer Protocols such as DeviceNet, CANopen and OSEK. With the functionallity of the TLC, the performance of a single CAN node and for the whole system can be improved significantly because time consuming software functions are already implemented in hardware.
