An energy charging gear to pick up inductive power transfer from the powered roadway, so the EV can travel along the highway without consuming the on-board battery energy. While in high speed cruising, to align the power collector pad mounted under the EV body against the road surface charging pad becomes the challenge to EV drivers. lt requires very high level of driving skills. Embedding heating elements in each individual charging pad that are laid on the road surface and working with some on-board electronic devices, the auto-guidance function can be achieved. An IR image sensor mounted at the front of the vehicle detects the centerline of the powered roadway. Linking the on-board image processor with the position controller provides the highest precision level for the EV and charging pads in serial. This auto-alignment system can be easily and eventually extended to the function of auto piloting.
