The increase of the power traction needs due to the new generation locomotives and to the raise of the train traffic in the railway network of Europe requires electric fixed installations of higher perfomance and stresses the existing ones up to their limits. In the paper it is described by a parametric analysis the influence of locomotive power regulation on the supply systems considering both the energy parameters (the power consumption, the efficiency) and performance parameters (maximum power, voltage drop, unbalance on the public network). The analysis has been done by means of dedicated simulation programs for both the 3 kV supply system and 2x25 kV supply system considering a railway section of 100 km for a general approach.
