A characteristic of ultradeepwater reserves is the effect of the hydrostatic pressure in the riser acting downwards against the reservoir pressure. For optimum production, this hydrostatic head needs to be minimized. To this end, installation of a three phase separation process at the seabed offers several advantages. This allows the fluids to flow to the surface in separate risers for further treatment. This process is described.
