With the development of cars, motorcycles, tractors, railway vehicles and with growing requirements on speed, performance and reliability, the demands on the quality of brake linings are increasing. Logically, there are rising demands on the development of high temperature resistant friction materials, which could satisfy the high requirements of safety and environment protection. This contribution concerns the development of new matel-ceramic friction materials. The influenece of some ceramic friction additives, graphite and friction modifiers on the propertises of metal-ceramic materials is described. These knowledges were also used for introduction of new materials for brake and clutch linings in PRAMET Sumperk.
