A program was initiated to develop weldable rapidly solidified aluminum alloys and associated fusion and solid state joining methods for marine applications. A set of goal properties for this program was developed. Emphasis was placed on identifying alloy compositions and welding techniques which have high potential to meet the desired strength, ductility and weldability goals. This paper details the results for a promising RSP Zn-Mg-Zr aluminum alloy.
