The multi-leg spread catenary type moorings systems specified by the Department of Commerce and the Department of Energy for developing preliminary designs applicable to both OTEC Modular platforms have been subjected to extensive analysis. The overall conclusion reached is that for 10/40 MWe capacity SPAR and BARGE platform hulls, designing, building, deploying, and operating state-of-the-art catenary moorings is possible.
