Electron beam curable coatings dry by radiation induced copolymerization of unsaturated resins and predominantly acrylic unsaturated monomers. EB provides a non-polluting finishing process and a saving of raw materials and energy. A German automobile manufacturing company has installed an EB pilot line for top-coating steel wheels after exploring the electron beam curing of coatings. A comparison of the conventional coating process and the EBC process will be presented, based on the experiences of industrial production.
