This report provides a basic evaluation of the potential of marine plants as an economical source of substitute fuels. The potential of different species and cultivation techniques for marine biomass production will be evaluated and compared. The analysis will consist of a review of the cultivation and harvesting technology, the production costs and the expected biomass yield. Legal and institutional constraints as well as environmental and socioeconomic impacts will also be evaluated. (Stoehr)
