A basic requirement for the feasibility of some space experiments are thermally stable structures, i.e. structures remaining dimensionally stable at ambient temperature charges within certain limits. The Optical Bench of the Faint Object Camera was taken as an representative example for the development of the technology for this type of structures. Special attention has been drawn to the thermal distortion behaviour, which has been measured using the holographic interferometry method. Besides structural elements a three-dimensional graphite fibre reinforced epoxy tubular framework has been manufactured and tested. (Stoehr)
