At the present, the most significant use of space for manufacturing is in remotely sensing the earts natural resources. There are now 29 spacecraft existing or under contract with the specific purpose of supplying resource data to the public. These employ a variety of earth sensors, including imaging scanners in the visible and infrared spectral bands. The most direct impact of this data on manufacturing is in locating and monitoring natural resources - locating those under the earth's surface. Specific examples of imaging data from the Landsat Satellite series are presented with applications for mineralogy, geology, agriculture, forestry, land use, mapping, environmental impact and water resources.
