A model is developed assuming a linear moisture partial pressure of water through a complex composite. Since the thickness precludes a steady-state permeation process, the point of zero partial pressure proceeds progressively deeper into the composite with time. From the geometry, the partial pressure of the liner is determined at one-half the permeation time and is used in the pseudo first order rate constant for the hydrolysis of crosslinks in an intermediate polymeric material. Predicted and observed values using this method are in reasonably good agreement.
