Now, for the first time, a power take-off shaft on a farm tractor be used with more versatility and precision than was previously believed. Why? Because the integration of hydrostatics with electronics has, again, solved some common downfalls of pure mechanics. First, an articulating vehicle with a power source (engine) in the front needs to produce this power at the rear while not detracting from vehicle function or performance. Second, the operator needs the independence to control his tractor according to the terrain, crop density, etc., yet not alter PTO output speed or power capability. And, finally, safety cannot be stressed enough when it comes to a PTO output shaft. A fast shutdown when needed or a foolproof torque limit condition are easily solved with electronics. (DePo)
