SYNOPSIS. Meaningful magnetic field vector measurements in space require the accurate placement of a magnetometer beyond the magnetic fields of a spacecraft. This paper describes a box beam designed to ensure deployement and stability of an instrument package in a space environment, and the development of the box beam's most important component, a Graphite Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) hinge.
