A review of alloy and process development in aero-propulsion units of the gas turbine type is presented, with a summary of failure modes and Air Force service experience with turbofan engines of all sizes. Modern developments in cold and hot-section engine alloys and component processing are described, including an assessment of their potential for future engine applications.
