An analysis developed to predict the details of the flow within a subsonic unstalled diffuser is described. Both the development of the flow field and the pressure recovery characteristics of a given diffuser geometry are computed. The analysis is based on the boundary layer approximations and is suitable for both planar and axisymmetric geometries, however, results from the axisymmetric version are emphasized in this paper. The flow field at the entrance to the diffuser is assumed to be laminar except for a boundary layer region at the diffuser wall. Compressible or incompressible single-gas flow fields may be computed. The analysis is based on a turbulent kinetic energy flow field treatment similar to an earlier analysis of free turbulent flows.
