The MSF/FBE process, making use of a fluidized bed heat exchanger in a vertical multi-stage flasch evaporator, represents an economically attractive process for water distillation. A comparative cost study between a 450 tons/hour conventional horizontal flash evaporator of the Rotterman Municipal Water Department in The Netherlands and a MSF/FBE for the same production as the conventional plant and working at corresponding process conditions will be discussed.
