Since the mid-1950s, problems in research and development of cars have focused on the increase in horsepower and engine speed, observance of pollution-related regulations, improvement of fuel cost performance, and attainment of car electronics. In response to variations in such study problems, testing facilities or dynamometer-applied systems have constantly changed. The largest factor involved is the attainment of digitization using electronics-applied products. Conventional setting using potentiometers has been modified into digital setting through a keyboard, controls by analog circuits into those by digital operation, and indication and supervision by analog meters into digital indication and supervision by means of CRT and liquid crystals. Thus, complicated and sophisticated controls have been made possible through compact and easy-to-handle operation/display panels. The authors introduce some digital technology applied products used in dynamometer-applied systems.
