Discusses the development of electron tube technology, designed to meet the requirements of airborne radar applications. The dual-mode radar TWT performance improvement has resulted from design refinements of the multistage collector, and advances in RF circuit and electron gun technologies. Continued performance improvement is provided by the use of TWTs which combine high average power capability with a wide range of peak-power flexibility. These programmable TWTs allows the pulse-width and repetition frequency to be selected on the basis of target size and range.
