Sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Research & Technology (BMFT), a complete computer-based hierarchy of control has been developed by the Hamburger Hochbahn Aktiengesellschaft (HHA). Known as PUSH (Prozessrechnergesteuertes U-Bahn Automationssystem Hamburg), it will be the first system which combines the functions of train operation with supervision and control of interlockings, stations, power supplies and operational management. Trials with PUSH started in May 1982 when a total of 18 U-Bahn cars were fitted for fully-automated operation on the Grosshansdorf branch. The results of these trials are presented.
