A number of features of industrial products are examined in relation to the design quality, for example functional performance, economic feasibility and social acceptability. Test procedures are considered, and related to various types of analysis, for instance overload and control failures and stochastic faults, and examined by failure modes, criticality factors, worst case conditions, fault tree analyses and material and quality control. A detailed breakdown is quoted of the FMECA (failure mode, effects and criticality analysis) approach to the electrical circuitry of a space research component.
