This circuit was designed to supply 5 V at up to 1 A for microprocessor circuits in the electrically noisy environment of vehicles. It can cope with most of the transients found on 12 V vehicle supply lines. The input is protected from noise and fast transients by an input filter which also filters noise that would otherwise be fed back on to the line.
