The wide discipline of instrumentation involves the precise measurement and recording of a physical or mechanical parameter. Aircraft instrumentation is an extension of this but with higher accuracy, ruggedness and reliability. The various parameters encountered in aeronautics and aerospace measurements and the status of the development work in India are outlined. The need for larger investments in R & D in instrumentation for aeronautics is highlighted.
