Discusses the role of gas turbine plants in North Sea operations, powering electricity generation, pumping, compression, reinjection and other essential services for many of the field platforms. For offshore duty gas turbines of twinshaft design (1300 to 23370 kW)-supplied by John Brown Engineering, GEC Gas Turbines, Rolls-Royce and Ruston Gas Turbines-offer many desirable characteristics. These include: minimal volume; low weight; multi-fuel capability; absence of vibration; rapid start-up and load acceptance; and automatic control and unattended operation.
