Describes an electronic burglar alarm designed to protect homes, garages, cars, etc. The alarm can be activated by a single switch and is operated by pressure microswitches or magnetic switches fitted to a door or window which closes the circuit. The system can be connected to any sort of 6 or 9V acoustic alarm which will be sounded after a 15-20 second delay. The circuit of the device, comprising only solid state devices with no electromechanical components, is analysed with special reference to the function of the digital integrated circuit (an SN7400 quadruple NAND gate). A procedure for testing the operation of different sections of the electronic circuit using a current tester is discussed and comments on the assembly and installation of this battery driven burglar alarm are included.
