From 1980 to 1990 Europe is likely to need 30 to 45 applications satellites (for communications, weather, data gathering, navigation and earth resources development). Specific missions briefly described are air navigation satellites linking aircraft with ground control centres, data gathering satellites which relay data from ground beacons, and earth resources missions using multispectral cameras and side-looking radar.
