Modeling of wheelchair suspension systems to investigate ride comfort is described using a comfort index. Parameters investigated are suspension geometry and damping parameters. Two cases are investigated; torque input disturbances and surface disturbances. It was found that optimum values can be predicted for the two cases. Propulsion efficiency is also investigated and found not to be adversey affected by the addition of suspension systems to maual wheelchairs.
