Flight monitoring has been suggested by many pilots as the most desired function of an intelligent computer in the cockpit. This paper describes the evolution of the SECURE flight monitor, the initial script-based version, and the progress in the current planning oriented version. The motivation for the SECURE flight monitor, the performance and limitation of the initial script-based SECURE system, and the design and implementation of the planning oriented SECURE system are also discussed.
