It is well known that as more and more complex communications equipment is added to an aircraft, the potential for electromagnetic interference between the equipment increases. To avoid severe interference some care has to be taken during the development of the communications system. This paper will provide a basic overview of the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) problem and the various tools available to reduce it. A few of the topics to be discussed are: computer-aided EMC analysis, add-on interference reduction devices, and intermodulation product generator detection.
