Engine speed and diagnostic information for a diesel engine can be obtained without mechanical or electrical connections, thereby making fault diagnosis extremely simple and rapid. With this remote sensing and signal processing method, diesel engines with minor compression losses or fuel injection problems can be readily identified in less than one minute of testing.
