Road accidents cost India 3–5% of gross domestic product every year and are avoidable if India could improve its roads and city planning, train its drivers better and enforce traffic laws properly, an India spend analysis shows. Traffic sign boards are more often than not ignored by drivers either intentionally or because they are not taught about them in their formative training. The objective is to have our system detect the signs on the road in real time and provide alerts to the driver to perform the action corresponding to the sign, e.g. If our system detects a stop sign, then the user will be prompted to lower their speed.
