Territory of the city of Novosibirsk is being actively developed from the second half of the 20th century to the present time along both banks of the Ob River. In any large settlement, a water body is invariably included in the infrastructure, whether it is the construction of bridges, underwater crossings, arrangement of embankments, installation of water intakes, laying of pipelines, development of a river floodplain or development of channel quarries. All of these activities undoubtedly have an impact on the overall picture in the river floodplain. The Ob River is navigable throughout the Novosibirsk region and far beyond its borders, while the city also has a hydraulic structure: the Novosibirsk gateway.Introduction of physical changes in the geometric and morphometric characteristics of the river bed in an urbanized way entails a change in all characteristics of the flow: its dynamic and hydrological characteristics, including the water level, velocity fields, etc. It should also be noted that designing of hydraulic structures is carried out at a certain flow rate and level of water.
