Life cycle assessment can act as an effective tool for evaluating the environmental impacts associated with the existing municipal solid waste management system. The present study elaborates on the multiple options associated with municipal solid waste management options for Indian cities with two different scenarios. It highlights the adverse impacts and the extent of issues been developed to date. The analysis tool used for Life cycle assessment in the present study is openLCA, and the impact categories focused on are human toxicity, global warming, acidification potential, and eutrophication. The assessment revealed that the recycling rates majorly influence the environmental issues dealing with solid waste management options.
