Abstract The paper presents a numerical study of the vortex motion around an ellipse using the conformal mapping of the circle exterior on the ellipse exterior. The vortex motion velocity and the stream function were obtained taking into account Routh’s correction. The trajectories of the vortex filament motion were constructed by integrating the vortex velocity differential equation and according to the condition of the stream function equality to a constant magnitude.
