The analysis of the influence of operating modes of electric rolling stock of alternating current consumption and non-deterministic non-stationary process of changing the voltage of the contact network on the energy indicators of the traction drive of the electric rolling stock was carried out. As a result of the analysis, it was found that to improve the energy efficiency of the traction drive, to optimize the energy performance of the traction drive. It is proposed to introduce an optimal control system for the sampling frequency of the control signal when implementing pulse-width modulation, on the basis of which the algorithm of operation of the power transistors of the input converter of the traction drive is organized. As an objective function in the implementation of the optimal control algorithm, it is proposed to use the power factor of the drive as a function of time. It is mathematically proven that the power factor as a function of time is a mathematical convolution of the time functions of the efficiency and the use of the active power of the traction drive. Algorithms for determining the time functions of the power factor are proposed for the case of deterministic discrete, deterministic continuous, stochastic continuous and stochastic discrete signals of the efficiency and the use of the active power of the traction drive.
