Multi-function vehicle bus (MVB) is widely used in many control subsystems of metro and high-speed trains due to its high real-time and reliability. The control and monitoring functions of each subsystem are realized by transmitting process data and monitoring data. Once the network fails, driving safety will be endangered. To detect early failures in time, the common failures of the MVB are carefully studied. According to the extracted characteristic parameters of the physical layer of the MVB, a health evaluation method based on self-organizing mapping network (SOM) is proposed to quantify the MVB communication quality and warn early faults. The network status is classified according to the evaluation results, and corresponding operation and maintenance recommendations are proposed. The experimental results prove the effectiveness of this method for MVB network health evaluation.
