The flight of Gemini 5 was over, but the work of analyzing the results now began in earnest prior to Gemini 6 attempting a docking with an Agena and Gemini 7 looking to smash the new eight-day record by the end of the year. The recovered spacecraft structure and systems would be examined, before being assigned as a museum artifact. Meanwhile, Cooper and Conrad, together with their wives, embarked on a six nation goodwill tour to Europe and Africa over two weeks. In the world's press, the achievements and challenges of Gemini 5 were examined and its legacy debated, while at the same time speculating what the Soviets might do in response having been remarkably quiet on the human spaceflight stage since March 1965. With five further missions in the Gemini program due to fly in 1966, expectations were high at NASA for continued success before progressing to Apollo from 1967.
