The previous five chapters all discuss the fleet maneuvering problem of ground vehicles. With the proliferation of aerial vehicles in recent years, UAV fleet flying has become popular with numerous applications in industries, such as air patrol, environment monitoring, and so on. In the past decade, rotorcrafts have been investigated extensively with major research problems been solved. In this chapter, we study fixed-wing UAVs. Compared with ground vehicles, localization of fixed-wing UAVs is much easier as the working environment is generally GPS-available. Main challenges are in the motion planning domain. In this chapter, we consider the air patrol application and address two challenges, task-based optimal configuration and trajectory replanning around no-fly zones. The proposed approach is validated by simulations.
