The positioning accuracy of gravity matching is closely related to the distribution of gravity anomaly in matching area. Matching area selection is the key to improve the gravity matching accuracy. In this paper, a novel analysis method for matching area selection is proposed to solve the problem that the existing methods show strong subjectivity and ignore the directions. Firstly, the existing gravity characteristic parameters were selected by correlation analysis. Then a basic adaptability factor was built by combining the selected parameters through the subjective and objective weighting method. Finally direction factors were added to build comprehensive characteristic parameters in four main directions through multiple linear regression. Simulation result shows that the average matching rate is larger than 0.7 in the matching area selected by comprehensive characteristic parameters and the matching rate rank of different directions is consistent with comprehensive characteristic parameters rank in local area. The proposed comprehensive characteristic parameters can effectively value the adaptability of matching area in different directions.
