Abstract This paper presents an approach to importance of water quality in Jayakwadi reservoir situated on Godavari River using statistical and Inter-relationship analysis. Monthly data from 2001 to 2012 of nine water quality parameters such as TDS, pH, EC, Temperature, BOD, COD, DO, SS and Cl were collected. The collected dataset consists of few missing values which have been predicted by ANO method. Statistical analysis provides an improved understanding of water quality. Analysis reflected that the curve was platykurtic for TDS, EC, DO, Temperature, COD, BOD, pH and leptokurtic for SS and Cl. The Inter-relationship between parameter has been assessed using correlation coefficient (r). High correlation coefficient has been observed between TDS-EC and COD-BOD; while TDS-Cl gives poor significant. The Model validated using R-square and standard error. This Model provides an easy and rapid method of monitoring water quality parameters. Parameters such as BOD, COD and SS are marked which would be requiring treatment for drinking purpose in the reservoir.
