This paper describes the phenomenon of parasitic bearing currents and shows their effects and interactions. For this purpose, the causes of parasitic bearing currents are first explained in a short form. This is followed by a classification of the different types of currents that can occur, and the interaction of the tribological conditions in the contact with the electrical interpretation of the contact is clarified. Furthermore, typical occurring damages on the running surfaces and the lubricant are visualized and described. The aim of this is to show the reader the complex interactions between the mechanical system and the resulting electrical system as well as damage phenomena and their causes, to explain them and to make them interpretable.
