Abstract The use of motorcycles is becoming increasingly popular in Europe due to their numerous advantages. Motorcycling is characterized as a risky activity as the riders are at high risk of getting severely injured or killed in an accident. In the past, motorcycling was often perceived as a male dominated activity. However, the number of female riders is rapidly increasing. Riders’ gender and age have been reported to relate to risky behavior in road traffic, often causing motorcyclists’ involvement in road accidents. This paper addresses motorcycling attributes and the safety of Slovenian female riders. The analysis performed is based on motor-cycle traffic accidents data and a survey carried out among Slovenian motorcycle riders.
