Abstract Space business is big business. Space commercialization revenues are expected to exceed $52 billion annually by the year 2000. These revenues are expected from the production and marketing of such products and services as satellites, computer hardware and software for space R&D, and transportation into space. The USA, USSR, European Space Agency (ESA), Japan, and PR China are involved. This research provides an overview of the commercialization of outer space, competitors, and obstacles. Marketing implications are given, and a prediction on who will win the race for profits in space.
