The results of analysis of existing methods and algorithms for predicting loads on walls of hoppers with granular material are presented. It is shown that the process of load prediction requires a deeper studying, based on the improvement of methods for modeling the behavior of the material mass with non-uniform granulometric composition. Since research methods on laboratory benches are labor-intensive, it is proposed to use methods of numerical simulation of discrete medium behavior as a research tool. The influences of particle shape and size, as well as the homogeneity of the granulometric composition of the simulated material on the stress value are described. It is concluded that the numerical model is adequate and can be used to study the stress-strain state of the hopper structure. Purpose of work: to define the features of stress-strain state of the hopper walls at loading by granular material. Method: theoretical study and modeling using discrete element method (DEM). Results: the values of stresses on the walls of the hopper.
