Vehicular movement modeling is central focus of traffic flow theory. Current practice of microscopic traffic models have been gain great success and have been applied to various real world problems. However, majority of these models focus on one dimensional, i.e. longitudinal description of vehicular movement. Furthermore, as the vehicle is stochastic, deterministic approach often fail to capture the essence of traffic flow. This book provides several recipes for the stochastic two-dimensional modeling of vehicular movement. These recipes encapsulate different aspects regarding the modeling of vehicular movement which is indispensible for certain tasks, including the consideration of vehicle body, the realistic jerk profile, lateral wandering behavior, etc.
However, it is far from enough for the future applications, given that the transportation system experiences transformation by digitalization, connection and intelligence of both vehicles and infrastructures. The transformations bring new challenges and, as a result, require continuous efforts to develop stacks of new models, method, technologies etc., to deal with real world problems. Here we provide an incomplete list of the required efforts.
