Over the past decades there has been a realization that the use of robots in rehabilitation seems not only a desirable innovation but perhaps also an inevitable one [101]. This is clearly demonstrated by an increase in volume of research in this field (Figure 3.1). As will be discussed in later chapters, robots have played a central role in the exploration of brain–computer interfacing technology as a rehabilitation tool. In this chapter, we review rehabilitation robots with historical importance as well as some that continue to be used today.
