With the implementation of the Medium and Long-Term Railway Network Plan, by 2020, a high-speed railway operation line of 30,000 km will be formed, covering more than 80% of China’s major cities. Affected by factors such as regional topography and high-speed railway designed maximum operation speed, the length of block section has become one of the important factors affecting high-speed railway transportation safety, efficiency and engineering investment. In this paper, the design principle and constraints of block section length optimization based on China Train Control System level 3/2 are discussed. The optimization model is given to provide the basis and reference for the block section length of a high-speed railway.
