Abstract Whether the arrangement of the space maintenance mission is reasonable directly affects the work efficiency of the space mission and the work intensity of the astronauts. Aiming at the problem of lack of historical data, small sample size and non-repetitive task, based on the ground experimental data, the motion and time study on space maintenance mission is discussed. Motion study is processed base on motions and their objects. Forty one motion codes which are suitable for space maintenance mission are formulated. And these motions are classified. Based on time series, moment estimation method and Wilcoxon signed rank test respectively, three methods are proposed to determine observation time of motions and its accuracy. Taking a ground experiment as an example, the method can calculate all observation time of motions. And this can be the foundation for the calculation and forecast of the time of a space maintenance mission.
